Pair of Yellow Jackets Open Season With Two Goals Each Against UMW

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. – Two Yellow Jackets had a pair of goals each in the season and home opener for R-MC against in-state foe Mary Washington. The Eagles (1-1) came out the victors 14-6.

Mary Washington began with a pair of goals in the first quarter before R-MC answered with a goal from senior Miles Muncie (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) with 2:25 to go in the first.

UMW would tack on another goal before Muncie pulled the Yellow Jackets (0-1) back within a score with 8:04 remaining in the second quarter. Muncie finished with his two goals and ten shots, including four on goal as well as picking up a ground ball.  After the Eagles added another, senior Alex Camilliere (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) pushed his own goal in with under 90 seconds to play in the quarter. The Eagles answered quickly though, scoring a third second-quarter goal before the halftime intermission.

The Eagles shut out the Yellow Jackets in the third quarter, scoring five goals in the period without an answer from Randolph-Macon.

But eight seconds into the fourth quarter, sophomore Joe Maranto (Joppa, Md./Fallston) found the net for R-MC's fourth goal of the game. UMW scored another pair before Camilliere got the Yellow Jackets on the board again with a goal that was assisted by sophomore Colin DiSesa (Ashland, Va./Hanover). Camilliere finished with two goals as well as four shots, all on goal as well as a ground ball. UMW answered that goal as well before sophomore Ryan Tiffey (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) found the net for Randolph-Macon one last time with 5:55 remaining to finalize R-MC's line score with six. UMW would add one last goal before the end of the game, ending the game with the 14-6 mark.

In addition to his goal, Maranto picked up six ground balls and caused a turnover. Junior Austin Evans (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) forced a pair of turnovers while picking up a ground ball as well. Junior goalkeeper Chris Cerrina (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) picked up seven ground balls in addition to his efforts in the goal – which included 12 saves in the entire 60 minutes of work.

R-MC returns to the field at Catholic on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
