Box Score ASHLAND, Va.—Junior Sam Mayer (Severna Park, Md. / Severna Park) tallied six assists as the Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-12 decision to Virginia Wesleyan in conference play Wednesday evening.
Senior Ryan Davidson (Logan Township, NJ / Kingsway Regional) and sophomore Miles Muncie (Midlothian, Va. / Midlothian) each tallied hat tricks with a triad of goals while senior Nick Benhoff (Phoenix, Md. / Dulaney) and sophomore Coleman Adams (Mechanicsville, Va. / St. Christopher's) each registered a pair of scores. Sophomores Kyle Keepers (Roswell, Ga. / Roswell) and Alex Camilliere (Huntingtown, Md. / Huntingtown) added the two remaining goals for R-MC.
After the Marlins (9-4, 3-3 ODAC) scored first, Mayer found Adams to tie the game at 1-1. Mayer notched his second assist on a pass to Benhoff with 2:50 remaining in the first period to put the Yellow Jackets (3-11, 2-4 ODAC) within three at 5-2. R-MC faced a 6-2 deficit at the end of the first period.
The Marlins and Yellow Jackets each added two goals to bring the score to 8-4 in the second period before Mayer tallied his third assist on a goal from Keepers with 4:23 left until halftime. VWC added a last-second goal to hold a 9-5 advantage at the break.
The Yellow Jackets outscored the Marlins 3-2 in the third period with two goals from Muncie and a score from Davidson as VWC maintained an 11-8 lead at the buzzer.
The Marlins poured in five-straight goals in the fourth quarter before the Yellow Jackets fended off VWC for the last six minutes of the game. R-MC added the final four goals of the contest. Muncie found Adams before Mayer located Muncie and Davidson twice as VWC claimed the 16-12 win.
The Yellow Jackets outscored the Marlins 48-41 in shots including 37-14 in the second half.
Junior Brian Davies (Lynchburg, Va. / E.C. Glass) recorded 18 saves in the contest.
Randolph-Macon returns to action at home on Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m. for Senior Day against Shenandoah.
