Migliorini Muscles R-MC past Rowan 7-2

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Cole Migliorini (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) had two doubles and a home run to lead the No. 32 Randolph-Macon baseball team past Rowan 7-2 Saturday afternoon on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.

The Yellow Jackets (7-0) scored a pair in the bottom of the first. Freshman Jeffrey Butler (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) and junior Jordan Schmeer (Richmond, Va./Benedictine) drew walks to start the inning. Butler moved to third on a flyout by senior Mitchell Keeler (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee). Senior Travis Lodge (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) hit into a fielder's choice, plating Butler with the game's first run. Following a balk, Migliorini doubled to right center to drive in Lodge and give the home team a 2-0 lead.

After the Profs (0-1) cut the deficit in half in the third, R-MC erupted for four in the fifth. Butler drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored on a base hit by Schmeer to make it 3-1. One out later, Lodge launched a shot over the centerfield fence, his second homer of the season, to give the Yellow Jackets a 5-1 advantage. Migliorini went deep to right, his second long ball of the year, make it a 6-1 contest.

Rowan added a run in the top of the seventh before R-MC answered in the bottom of the frame. With two away, Migliorini doubled off the left field fence and scored on a single by sophomore Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) to make the final 7-2.

Senior James Walsh (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) struck out eight in seven innings in raising his record to 3-0. He allowed four hits, two walks and two runs. Sophomore Jake Curran (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) pitched two scoreless innings with two hits and two punchouts.

Randolph-Macon and Rowan will complete their weekend series with a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 11:30 a.m.
