Women's Basketball Improves to 2-1 with 93-55 Victory over Greensboro

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team improved to 2-1 with a 93-55 win over Greensboro in the final game of the R-MC Tipoff Classic. Freshman Michal Ross (Glen Allen, Va./ Glen Allen) led the team with 17 points and seven assists.

After last night's victory over #11 Albright, R-MC (2-1) came out hot in the first quarter and shot 41 percent from the field. Junior Marisha Berry (Powhatan, Va./ Powhatan) led all scorers in the first with seven points, as she was perfect from the field. R-MC would outscore the Pride (0-3) 23-16.

Despite early foul trouble, freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) was able to record her third double double in her third collegiate game. Williams finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

With a 39-36 lead at half, R-MC was able dominate the third quarter, outscoring the opponents 29-10. R-MC was 10 for 20 from the field in the third quarter.

The Yellow Jackets were able to continue their momentum into the final quarter, outscoring Greensboro 25-9.

Junior Kareema Conteh (Riverdale, Md./ Parkdale) had a terrific game as she tallied 15 points, shooting seven of 11 from the field.

Sophomore Kelsey Wisner was one of four Yellow Jackets to score double figures in the game. Wisner finished with 14 points and led the team in three pointers.

Williams was given the Most Outstanding Award for the 2016 R-MC Tipoff Classic, sponsored by Riesbeck Contracting. Williams had 33 points and 24 rebounds in the team's two wins.

Being named to the All-Classic Team was two fellow Yellow Jackets in Michal Ross and Kareema Conteh.

Randolph-Macon will be back on the court on November 29 when it hosts Washington & Lee for the opening game of ODAC play.
