Miltenberger Homers to Lift R-MC past York

Box Score

YORK, Pa. – Junior Bryan Miltenberger (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) hit a solo homer in the top of the ninth to snap a 9-9 tie and the Yellow Jacket defense turned a double play with the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame as seventh-ranked Randolph-Macon pulled out a 10-9 win at York on Thursday afternoon.

Miltenberger was a defensive replacement at first base for the Yellow Jackets (15-2) in the bottom of the eighth and had his first at-bat of the game in the ninth. It was his first home run of the season.

The Spartans (7-4) loaded the bases with one away in the bottom of the ninth, but a come-backer to the mound turned into a game-ending 1-2-3 double play.

Junior Tanner Phillips (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) allowed two hits and one run in 1.1 innings to earn his first win of the season. Freshman Christian Cok (Chester, S.C./Lewisville) worked out of trouble in the ninth to record his first collegiate save.

After York scored a pair in the first, R-MC answered with four in the third. Sophomore Blake Saathoff (Catonsville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and junior Travis Lodge (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) had RBI doubles and junior Mitchell Keeler (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) added a run-scoring single for the Yellow Jackets.

The Spartans scored single runs in the fourth and fifth to knot the score at 4-4.

Sophomore Stuart Brown (Midlothian, Va./Trinity) had an RBI single in a two-run seventh as R-MC took a 6-4 lead.

York erupted for four in the bottom of the seventh to claim an 8-6 advantage.

In the top of the eighth, senior Nate Meiners (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's Prep) had a two-run single and Keeler knocked in the go-ahead run with a base hit as the Yellow Jackets took a 9-8 advantage.

In the bottom of the eighth, Pitzer hit a two-out homer to level the score at 9-9.

Meiners and Keeler both had two hits and two RBI, while Keeler and junior Michael Kroll (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) both scored twice for R-MC.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, March 28 at noon for a home ODAC doubleheader against Shenandoah at Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.
