Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team outscored Goucher 8-1 in the fourth period, but it was not enough as the Gophers claimed a 12-11 victory Saturday afternoon at Day Field.
Freshman Jacob Edwards (Virginia Beach, Va./Nansemond Suffolk) scored 39 seconds into the game to give the Yellow Jackets (1-4) the early lead. The Gophers (3-1) scored the next 10 goals to lead 10-1 midway through the third quarter. Sophomores Ryan Davidson (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and Sam Mayer (Severna Park, Md./Severna) scored late in the third period as R-MC trailed 11-3 after three.
Senior Nolan Clark (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) and Mayer notched goals early in the fourth to make it 11-5. Goucher tallied its final goal with 9:46 remaining. Mayer, freshman Miles Muncie (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) and freshman Kyle Keepers (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) each scored to make it 12-8. Davidson added a pair and the Yellow Jackets trailed 12-10 with just under four minutes remaining. The Gophers were able to run some clock and freshman Schylur King (Owings, Md./Northern) netted the final goal with 18 seconds remaining to make the final 12-11.
Mayer and Davidson both finished with three goals.
R-MC held a 34-32 edge in shots, including 15-3 in the final period.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Tuesday, March 3, with a 4 p.m. home contest against Susquehanna at Day Field.
