Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va.—Junior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, VA / Patrick Henry) registered her eleventh double-double of the season with 19 points and 15 rebounds and senior Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, VA / J.R. Tucker) added 16 points as the first place Randolph-Macon women's basketball team topped Randolph 73-53 in ODAC action Tuesday evening for its 10th consecutive victory.
Junior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) tallied 14 points and four steals for Yellow Jackets (15-2, 8-1 ODAC).
An early jumper by senior Caroline Young (Burke, VA / Lake Braddock Secondary) capped a 4-0 run to open the game for the Yellow Jackets. After a layup by freshman Amber Lee (Rockville, VA / Patrick Henry) tied the score at 6-6 with 15:47 remaining, it sparked a 13-0 run as R-MC took a 17-6 advantage with 13:44 left until halftime. Freshman Kareema Conteh (Riverdale, MD / Parkdale) scored a jumper at 10:47 to stretch the lead to 14 points. The Wildcats (11-7, 2-7 ODAC) battled back to cut the lead to 10 points at 3:00 but R-MC responded with a 5-0 run to close the half and take a 36-21 lead to halftime.
The Yellow Jackets opened the second half and stretched their advantage to 19 points but the Wildcats cut it to 11 points with 16:10 left to play. R-MC battled back with a 16-6 run capped by a jumper from Lee at 10:37 to bring the score to 59-38. The Wildcats went on a 5-0 run to cut R-MC's advantage to 14 points with 6:39 left to play. A steal from junior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, VA / Amelia Academy) that resulted in a layup from Anderson, stretched the lead back to 19 points with 3:45 remaining. The Yellow Jackets would maintain this lead and claim a 73-53 victory.
Lee added six points and 10 rebounds for R-MC, while junior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, VA / Cape Henry Collegiate) contributed seven points and four steals.
The Yellow Jackets return home to Crenshaw Gynasium on Saturday January 31 for a 2:00pm tip in an ODAC contest against Lynchburg. for Back to the Hive.
