Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Sharese Jarvis
(Cobbs Creek, Va./Mathews) and sophomore Sam Moore (Ashland,
Va./Patrick Henry) both homered twice in the opener as the
Randolph-Macon softball team split an ODAC doubleheader with
Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon at the R-MC Softball Field.
The Yellow Jackets (14-6, 6-4) took the opener 7-1 before the
Hornets (17-9, 5-3) claimed the second game 11-1.
With one away in the bottom of the first of Game 1, Moore and
Jarvis hit back-to-back homers to give R-MC an early 2-0 lead.
Lynchburg cut the deficit in half in the top of the second before
Moore went deep again in the third, her seventh of the season, to
make it 3-1.
Jarvis smacked a three-run dinger in the fifth, her fourth of
the spring, to give R-MC a 6-1 advantage. Sophomore Jenna Best
(Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) had a solo shot in the sixth, her
third of the season, to make the final 7-1.
Freshman Kelsey
McLaughlin (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) pitched the complete
game for the Yellow Jackets, allowing six hits and one unearned run
with no walks and no strikeouts to raise her record to 7-3.
The Hornets scored two in the first and third before adding four
in the sixth and three in the seventh in the nightcap.
Moore had an RBI single in the fifth, while sophomore Christine Simon
(Richmond, Va./James River) went 2 for 4 in Game 2 for the Yellow
Jackets.
Randolph-Macon will play its third ODAC doubleheader in three
days on Sunday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Randolph.
