Moore Homers, But R-MC Falls to VWC in ODAC Title Game

SALEM, Va. – Sophomore Sam Moore (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) belted her league-leading 12th home run, but fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon fell to No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan 5-2 Sunday afternoon in the championship game of the ODAC Softball Tournament.

The Yellow Jackets (26-12), under head coach Kevin Proffitt, reached the ODAC title game for the first time in program history.

The Marlins put up two in both the first and fourth before Moore went deep to lead off the bottom of the fourth.

VWC added a run in the top of the sixth before R-MC tallied one in the bottom of the frame. Sophomore Christine Simon (Richmond, Va./James River) had a leadoff single, moved to second on a base hit by Moore and scored on a double by sophomore Katie Woody (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) to make it 5-2.

Moore finished 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI, while Woody also went 2 for 3 with one RBI.
