Maiolo Headlines Jackets' All-ODAC Awards

FOREST, Va. – Sophomore Nick Maiolo (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) was named 2014 ODAC Baseball Rookie-of-the-Year as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced its 2014 All-Conference Baseball awards this morning. Three members of the R-MC pitching staff were honored as well.

Maiolo missed his freshman campaign due to injury, but made up for it with a strong second season in Ashland.  An All-ODAC First Team choice at designated hitter, he sits eighth in the ODAC with a .395 batting average.  His power numbers all rank inside the top five as he stands fourth in homeruns (7) and slugging (.677) and fifth in doubles (12).  Maiolo is also third with 45 RBI and seventh with 84 total bases.  Against league opponents, his .708 slugging percentage leads all players, while his five homers are second.  He hit safely in 27-of-32 total games played with 16 multi-hit outings.  Entering the tournament, Mailolo is batting .467 with six multi-hit outings in his last seven.

Junior closer Glenn McLaughlin (Richmond, VA / Douglas Freeman) was also a First Team All-ODAC choice as a relief pitcher. McLaughlin leads the ODAC in saves (8) in 18 appearances (2nd). In 17.0 innings, he has posted a 0.53 ERA with 21 strikeouts and just one run allowed.

Senior Jamie Hendrick (Chesterfield, VA / J.R. Tucker) received Third Team recognition as a starting pitcher. Henrick currently has a team-high 6 wins in 48.1 innings with a 3.72 ERA. His 37 strikeouts is second on the team, walking just six batters in 206 at-bats. Reliever Jake Bram (Pasadena, MD / Chesapeake) was the fourth Yellow Jacket to receive All-ODAC honors, nabbing Third Team credit. Bram was 3-1 in 19 appearances, as R-MC's go-to reliever. In 37.0 innings he recorded 27 strikeouts and holds a 1.70 ERA.
