Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Fifth-seed Lynchburg used three consecutive doubles to plate a pair of runs in the top of the 10th in defeating No. 2 Randolph-Macon 3-1 Thursday afternoon in the first round of the ODAC Championship at City Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (22-14) will play an elimination game against No. 6 Hampden-Sydney on Friday, April 25 at 11 a.m.
R-MC did bring the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the 10th. Junior Tim Benjamin (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) had a two-out double to right and moved to third on a base hit by junior pinch-hitter Sid Harvey (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge). But both were stranded as a fly out ended the contest.
The Yellow Jackets dented home plate first. Sophomore Nicholas Maiolo (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) was hit by a pitch with one away. He advanced to third on an error and scored on a base hit by freshman Blake Saathoff (Catonsville, Md./Archbishop Spalding). R-MC loaded the bases, but a strikeout and a flyout kept it at 1-0.
The Hornets tied it in the seventh. Rob Tomasulo had a two-out double and came home on a base hit by Dustin Arrowood.
Benjamin and Saathoff both finished with two hits for the Yellow Jackets.
