Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon baseball team finished their regular season 22-13 overall following a 10-9 victory over Marymount this afternoon at Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.
Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Christian Sanderson (Lynchburg, VA / Jefferson Forest) (1-for-3, 1 run) sparked a three run rally with a lead-off single to left field. Jordan Schmeer (Richmond, VA / Benedictine) (2-for-5, 1 run, 1 RBI) moved up Sanderson before a single up the middle by Blake Saathoff (Catonsville, MD / Archbishop Spalding) (1-for-5, 1 run) would load the bases. A double-play would bring in Sanderson, making way for a two-run homer by Nick Maiolo (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) (2-for-3, 3 runs, 2 RBI) (7) for the 4-0 edge.
Two innings later, the Saints (8-25) responded with two runs. Tim Benjamin (Glenelg, MD / Glenelg) (2-for-4, 1 run, 3 RBI) belted his fifth homerun in that inning, posting three RBI for a 7-2 R-MC advantage. The Jackets continued chipping away over the next three innings, tallying three runs on four hits for the six run lead.
MU would string together a late five run surge, ultimately falling 10-9. Glen McLaughlin (Richmond, VA / Douglas Freeman) recorded his eighth save as James Walsh (Mechanicsville, VA / Atlee) improved to 3-4, throwing six innings, fanning four batters.
The Randolph-Macon baseball team returns to action this Thursday April 24, as they take #5 Lynchburg in Game Two of the 2014 ODAC Tournament at 2:30pm in Lynchburg.
