Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Sophomore Christine Simon (Richmond, Va./James River) went 4 for 6 with two walks, one stolen base and one run as the Randolph-Macon softball team was swept in an ODAC doubleheader at Bridgewater Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (17-9, 9-7) fell 8-3 in the opener and 5-1 in Game 2.
The Eagles (18-11-1, 8-7-1) scored a pair in the bottom of the first in Game 1 before junior Sharese Jarvis (Cobbs Creek, Va./Mathews) walked and scored in the top of the second to cut the deficit in half. Bridgewater plated five in the bottom of the second to take control of the contest. Sophomore Sam Moore (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry doubled in the third and was driven home by Jarvis to make it 7-2. After the Eagles added a run in the fourth, R-MC scored its final run in the seventh as junior Amanda Sopko (Skippers, Va./Greensville) had a leadoff single and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Katie Woody (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) to make the final 8-3.
Simon finished with two hits, one walk and one steal. R-MC left 10 on base.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board in the top of the first in Game 2 as Simon had a leadoff single, was sacrificed to second by Sopko and scored on a Jarvis base hit. Bridgewater responded with three in the third and single runs in the fifth and sixth to claim the 5-1 win. Simon went 2 for 3 with a run, while Jarvis was 2 for 3 with one RBI. R-MC stranded seven.
The Yellow Jackets stay on the road for an ODAC doubleheader on Sunday, April 13 at Eastern Mennonite at 1:30 p.m.
