Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The Randolph-Macon Baseball team picked
up a pair of conference wins this afternoon, sweeping Washington
and Lee 3-0 and 5-1. R-MC moves to 7-6, 3-1 ODAC.
Game 1
The first Yellow Jackets' run of the day occurred in the fourth
when Michael
Trentham (Midlothian, VA / James River) (2-for-4) singled to
right field to advance Mitchell Keeler
(Mechanicsville, VA / Atlee) (1-for-2) on a Generals' error. Keeler
led off the inning with a shot through the left side.
The second R-MC run was in the fifth as Blake Saathoff
(Catonsville, MD / Archbishop Spalding) (1-for-5) recorded the
fourth Jackets' hit with a single through the right side to bring
home Nate
Meiners (Silver Springs, MD / St. Johns Prep) who reached on a
leadoff walk. Leading 2-0 going into the ninth, the Yellow Jackets
improved their edge to 3-0 on a double by Michael Kroll
(Virginia Beach, VA / Cape Henry Collegiate) (2-for-4) scoring
Trentham for his first RBI of the day. WLU would not respond,
finishing game one with no runs, eight hits, and 14 left on
base.
Sophomore right-hander Daniel Byrd
(Chesterfield, VA / Cosby) (2-1) took home the win finishing with
four K's, five hits, and one walk through five innings. JT Williamson
(Springfield, VA / West Springfield) recorded his first save of the
season posting two strikeouts in 0.2 innings.
Game 2
With the bases loaded in the second inning, a walked batter
would bring in the first Generals' run of the day and the early 1-0
WLU lead. R-MC would respond with four runs on four hits to gain
the 4-1 tilt. The third inning rally was ignited by Michael Wallman
(Forest, VA / Jefferson Forest) (1-for-3) who singled to left field
to bring in the first run. Bryan
Miltenberger (Midlothian, VA / Cosby) (2-for-4) recorded the
second RBI of the inning while the remaining Jackets' runs were
unearned.
Starting pitcher James Walsh
(Mechanicsville, VA / Atlee) (1-3) picked up his first win allowing
one run, seven hits, and fanning three batters through five
innings. R-MC would not allow another WLU run and would add their
fifth run in the eighth as Keeler would tally his first homerun of
the year.
The Randolph-Macon Baseball team returns to Ashland Thursday,
March 13 to host Stevenson for a 3:30 pm non-conference game at
Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.
