Box Score MADISON, NJ – The Randolph-Macon Women's
Basketball team ended their 2013-14 campaign 23-6 overall after
falling 91-62 to Messiah this evening in the first round of the
2014 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.
The Yellow Jackets fell behind early down 22-5 at 13:03 before a
13-5 R-MC surge initiated by a Katie Anderson
(Beaverdam, VA / Patrick Henry) layup would cut the Falcons' lead
to 11. The Jackets continued to fight, attempting four more shots
than MC in the first stanza. 34.3% of those shots connected but
Messiah would outshoot R-MC by 20.5% and take the 52-32 tilt at
intermission.
Anderson recorded seven points and five boards in the first
period while Taylor Huber
(Ashland, VA / Patrick Henry) posted a team-high 11 points. The
Jackets scored 11 points off the bench.
Looking to build a comeback in the second period, the Yellow
Jackets put together an 18-23 rally with just under eight minutes
remaining in regulation; ultimately, unable to cut the Falcons'
lead.
Three Jackets finished the day in double-digits. Huber tallied
16 points while Anderson and Hannah
Livermon (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) notched 13 and 10 points
respectively. Lauren
Vugteveen posted a team-high eight rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets took their ninth trip to the NCAA Division
III Tournament after picking up the program's eighth ODAC title,
and seventh in the past 12 years under head Coach Carroll LaHaye.
This season R-MC spent five consecutive weeks ranked as high as
20th in the country and passed the 100+ point mark six times.
Three Yellow Jackets were named to the 2013-14 All-ODAC teams in
Anderson, Huber, and Sarah Parsons
(Glen Allen, VA / J.R. Tucker). They each picked up All-Tournament
recognition while Anderson took home the tournament's Most Valuable
Player award.
Earlier this season Parsons recorded her 1,000th career point
and currently sits 11th All-Time with 1,258 as a junior.
The Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball recorded 17 more victories
than their previous season, posting 23 wins and a perfect 14-0 in
Crenshaw Gymnasium.
