Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomores Sam Moore (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) and Katie Woody (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) both homered in the opener as Randolph-Macon was swept in a softball doubleheader by No. 8 Virginia Wesleyan at the R-MC Softball Field.
The Yellow Jackets (6-4, 0-2 ODAC) fell 4-3 in Game 1 and the Marlins (14-0, 4-0 ODAC) posted a 13-0 victory in the nightcap.
R-MC trailed 4-0 in the sixth before senior Carolyn Gilbertson (McLean, Va./McLean) doubled with one away and moved to third on an error. Freshman Ashley Stauffer (Elizabeth City, N.C./Northeastern) pinch-ran and scored one out later as Moore went deep to left for the third time this season to make it 4-2.
Woody homered to left with one away in the bottom of the seventh to pull the Yellow Jackets within one. Junior Amanda Sopko (Skippers, Va./Greensville) delivered a two-out single to put the tying run on bases, but was stranded as the game ended.
The Marlins used a 10-run fourth to put Game 2 away. Sophomore Madison Gilman (Glen Allen, Va./Patrick Henry) had the lone hit for R-MC, a single to short in the fourth.
Randolph-Macon returns to the field on Sunday, March 16, for a 1 p.m. ODAC doubleheader at home against Roanoke.
