Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Jenna Best (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) tossed a two-hit shutout in the nightcap and sophomore Katie Woody (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) went 3 for 3 with four RBI as Randolph-Macon split a softball doubleheader with Mary Washington Tuesday afternoon at the R-MC Softball Field.
The Yellow Jackets (6-2) took Game 2 by a score of 8-0 in five innings after the Eagles (4-3) won the opener 6-3.
Best (3-1) surrendered singles in the third and fourth. She walked two and struck out one in five innings
Woody had a two-run single and scored in a three-run second, an RBI single in a two-run third, and a run-scoring double in a three-run fourth for R-MC. Senior Carolyn Gilbertson (McLean, Va./McLean) went 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBI for the Yellow Jackets.
UMW scored three in the second and two in the third in the opener to take control early. R-MC tallied one in the third and two in the bottom of the seventh. The Yellow Jackets had 11 hits but stranded 11. Best and junior Amanda Sopko (Skippers, Va./Greensville) both had two hits and one RBI, while sophomores Christine Simon (Richmond, Va./James River) and Sam Moore (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) both had two hits and one run. Simon's two hits were doubles.
R-MC returns to action on Friday, March 14 with a home ODAC doubleheader against Virginia Wesleyan at 2:30 p.m.
