Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Freshman Taylor Balmaz
(King George, Va./King George) hit her first two collegiate home
runs in the nightcap as Randolph-Macon swept a softball
doubleheader from Frostburg State Saturday afternoon at the R-MC
Softball Field.
The Yellow Jackets (3-1) took the opener 4-1 before blitzing the
Bobcats (0-2) 11-0 in Game 2.
Balmaz (3 for 3) had a solo shot in the third and added a
two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth.
R-MC took control of the nightcap with three in the bottom of
the first, keyed by a two-run double off the bat of sophomore Madison
Gilman (Glen Allen, Va./Patrick Henry). The Yellow Jackets
added four in the second, capped by a three-run bomb by junior Sharese
Jarvis (Cobbs Creek, Va./Mathews).
Sophomore left-hander Jenna Best
(Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) pitched four scoreless innings with
five hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
Frostburg State got a run in the top of the first in the opener
before R-MC erupted for four in the fifth. Balmaz drew a leadoff
walk and was sacrificed to second. Sophomore Christine Simon
(Richmond, Va./James River) drew a walk and both runners scored on
a double by sophomore Sam Moore (Ashland,
Va./Patrick Henry). Gilman delivered a two-run homer to give the
Yellow Jackets a 4-1 lead.
Freshman right-hander Kelsey
McLaughlin (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) went the distance to
raise her record to 2-0. She allowed four hits and one walk while
striking out five.
Randolph-Macon will host Franklin & Marshall in a
doubleheader on Sunday, March 2 at 11 a.m. at the R-MC Softball
Field.
