Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sophomore Nicholas Maiolo (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI to lead Randolph-Macon past Rhodes 9-2 Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (1-2) scored in each of the first three innings to build a 5-0 advantage. Maiolo had an RBI single in the top of the first to start the scoring. He added an RBI double and scored in a three-run third for R-MC.
Sophomore Travis Lodge (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) (2 for 5) and freshman Jay Patti (Sparks, Md./Hereford) (1 for 5) both drove in a pair for the Yellow Jackets. Lodge had an RBI single in the second and added a run-scoring double in the sixth. Patti capped a three-run ninth with a two-run triple for R-MC.
Senior Jamie Hendrick (Chesterfield, Va./L.C. Bird) (1-0) earned the victory in his initial start of the season, fanning six in four innings with four hits, one walk and one run. Junior Jake Bram (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) (3 H, 4 K) followed with three scoreless innings for the Yellow Jackets.
Freshman Blake Saathoff (Catonsville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) scored three for R-MC, going 1 for 3 with two walks.
Randolph-Macon will hold its home opener on Saturday, Feb. 15, with a 12 noon doubleheader against Marymount on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.
