Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The Yellow Jacket baseball team scored nine
runs in four consecutive innings to defeat the Cardinals of
Catholic University 9-6 this evening at Hugh Stephens Field at
Estes Park.
Trailing 1-0 in the third, Travis Lodge
(Chesterfield, VA / Matoaca) (1-for-3) doubled to left center
scoring Nate
Meiners (Silver Springs, MD / St. John's Prep) (1-for-3) who
led the surge with a bunt in the second at-bat. R-MC
continued that spark after a pair of leadoff singles from Nicholas Maiolo
(Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) (2-for-3) and Bryan
Miltenberger (Midlothian, VA / Cosby) (3-for-5). With both
runners in scoring position, a Cardinals' wild pitch would bring
home Maiolo and advancing Miltenberger to third. He would
ultimately tally the third R-MC on a Jay Patti (Sparks, MD
/ Hereford) stolen base.
In the bottom of the sixth the Yellow Jackets (3-5) faced three
Catholic pitchers who gave up five runs on one hit to give R-MC the
9-1 edge. Lodge and Mitchell Keeler
(Mechanicsville, VA / Atlee) both notched a sacrifice RBI while
a few Cardinal errors and three Jackets' stolen bases would
keep R-MC in scoring position.
Down by eight runs in the eighth, CUA put together a five run,
seven hit rally to get within three. R-MC would hold on to take
home the 9-6 win in Estes Park.
Senior Jamie
Hendrick (Chesterfield, VA / L.C. Bird) (3-0) picked up his
third win in as many starts fanning two in six innings with four
hits and one walk while Glen McLaughlin (Richmond, VA / Douglas
Freeman) recorded his first save of the year with two
strikeouts.
