Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team fell to 0-2 on the season after a 11-10 2OT loss against Catholic this afternoon in our nation's capital. The Yellow Jackets battled their way back from a 6-9 deficit in the fourth period to tie the contest 10-10, forcing the Cardinals (2-1) into overtime.
Down three with 2:39 in regulation, midfielder
Dan Gallucci (Langley, VA / Langley) picked up the Jackets' seventh goal of the day, kicking off a three goal, R-MC comeback. His goal was assisted by
Jason Andrews (Hereford, MD / Hereford).
Ryan Davidson (Logan Township, NJ / Kingsway Regional) continued that surge by scoring his third goal of the day, cutting the CU lead to 10-8. With 1:29 left in the contest, Andrews picked up his second goal, assisted by
Justin Butler (Ocean City, MD / Worcester Prep). Butler also assisted the final R-MC goal tallied by
Joseph Edwards at 00:29, forcing the first overtime.
Randolph-Macon was able to hold off the Cardinals though the first overtime before CU's Walter Hickey scored the 2OT goal for the win.
R-MC topped Catholic in nearly all statistical categories outshooting the Cardinals 44-35, winning 15-of-25 face-offs, and tallying 35-33 groundballs. Freshman goalkeeper Bryan Davies (Lynchburg, VA / E.C. Glass) (0-2) recorded 12 saves in the OTL. Scorers for the day's game included Davidson (3), Butler (2), Andrews (1), Gallucci (1), Edwards (1),
Kyle Snodderly (Reistertown, MD / Franklin) (1), and
Nick Benhoff (Phoenix, MD / Dulaney) (1).
The Randolph-Macon men's lacrosse team is set to travel to Christopher Newport Wednesday, February 26 for a 7:00 pm non-conference matchup. The Yellow Jackets return to Day Field Wednesday, March 5 as they host Marywood at 2:30 pm.
