Parsons, Livermon both Score 17 for R-MC in Loss to VUU

ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) and junior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) both poured in 17 points as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team was nipped by Division II Virginia Union 72-68 Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Gymnasium.

Livermon hit seven field goals, including a pair of three-pointers, and a free throw for her 17 points. She also had two assists and two steals. Parsons sank six field goals, also a pair from behind the arc, and three free throws for her total of 17. Parsons also had five rebounds and five assists.

The Panthers (4-4) used a 9-3 spurt at the start of the second half to take a 41-31 lead four minutes into the second period. The Yellow Jackets (5-2) responded with a 15-6 spurt to pull to within one at 47-46 with 14:20 remaining. Livermon made a layup midway through the second stanza to give R-MC a 55-53 lead. Junior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) sank a free throw with five minutes left to give the home team its final lead at 64-63. Jasmin Dancy scored with 4:20 remaining to put VUU ahead to stay at 65-64.

Parsons put in a pair of free throws with 2:41 left to make it a two-point game at 70-68. R-MC went 0 for 4 from the floor the rest of the way and VUU added a pair of free throws to make the final 72-68.

R-MC jumped out to a 14-8 lead in the first seven minutes of the contest. VUU fought back and used a layup by Lady Walker just before the end of the first half to take a 32-28 advantage at intermission.

Junior Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) added 13 points for the Yellow Jackets, going 4 for 4 from the floor and 3 for 3 on three-pointers. She also dished out four assists and pulled down three rebounds.

Anderson led all players with 13 rebounds.

Walker led all scorers with 19 points.

Randolph-Macon heads to the Virgin Islands this week for its next two games. The Yellow Jackets will face Emerson on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. and Nichols on Friday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m.
