Randolph-Macon Softball Sweeps Randolph

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon Softball picked up a pair of ODAC wins over Randolph College Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets took game one 5-1 and completed the sweep with an 8-1 victory in game two.

Madison Gilman put R-MC on the board in the first inning with a single to right field that scored Sharese Jarvis and Amanda Sopko. Jenna Best doubled two batters later to bring home Gilman and extend the lead to 3-0.

Katie Woody came through with a single in third inning to score Gilman who reached on a double.

Randolph broke through in the fifth inning when Jess Sanabria crossed the plate on a Randolph-Macon error.

Sopko doubled home Carolyn Gilbertson in the sixth for an insurance run but that would be more than enough run support for the Yellow Jackets starter Heather Lewis who picked up her 13th win of the season. Lewis scattered four hits, struck out one and did not allow an earned run in seven innings of work.

Gilman finished 2-for-2 with a double, drove in two and swiped two bases. Sopko also added a double, an RBI and stole three bases in a 2-for-3 performance offensively.

R-MC continued their hot hitting in game two with Jarvis knocking an RBI double in the first inning.

Best led off the second with a solo homerun to right center before Sopko and Christa Simon both added run scoring singles.

A sacrifice fly from Best in the third inning pushed the Randolph-Macon advantage to 5-0 through three innings.

Ashley Gardner led off the fourth inning with a double for Randolph and scored when the next batter, Patti Vinson, singled to left. The Yellow Jackets quickly ended the threat when starting pitcher Kristen Dize induced a groundball for a double play.

Jarvis increased the R-MC advantage to 8-1 after a solo homerun to lead off the fifth and a two run shot in the sixth. The sophomore finished 3-for-4 and extended her ODAC leading homerun total to 16 while also upping her slugging percentage to 1.012.

Sopko added a pair of hits drove in a run and swiped two bases to bring her season total to 24. Best went 2-for-2 and drove in two runs while Gilman finished 2-for-4.

Dize went the distance for her eighth win of the season. The senior allowed just one earned run on seven hits and recorded a strikeout.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Tuesday, April 9th when they host Mary Baldwin for a 3:00 doubleheader.
