R-MC Men's Lacrosse Downs Bridgewater 19-11 on Senior Day

ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse ran their winning streak to four games with a 19-11 win over Bridgewater College Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets will enter the 2013 ODAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will await the announcement of their opponent.

Justin Butler opened the scoring for R-MC when he found the back net five minutes into the game.

Kevin Ashcraft answered for BC with a goal at the 8:52 mark of the first quarter but the Yellow Jackets quickly responded with goals from Robert Fox and Tim Rowe in a 30 second span.

Bridgewater rallied to tie the game at 4-4 with 54 seconds left in the first quarter. The tie would be short lived as Butler beat the keeper again with 15 seconds to go, putting Randolph-Macon back on top.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second quarter on a 7-1 run capped by a score from Butler with 3:07 to go in the half.

BC notched a pair of scores to end the half, cutting the advantage to 12-7.

Randolph-Macon pulled away in the third quarter with a 6-1 run. Jason Andrews opened the outburst when he scored on a pass from Robert Fox just 44 seconds into the quarter. Josh Merwin finished off the run with his second score of the quarter to put the Yellow Jackets ahead 18-8 and sealing the victory.

Butler finished with four goals and two assists while Andrews also tallied four scores. Merwin had three goals and three assists while Fox chipped in with three goals and two assists.

Nick Benhoff sparked the offense by winning 22-of-27 face offs, scooping 17 groundballs and scoring a goal. Thomas Smith stopped seven shots between the pipes while Jordan Devito made two saves in 4:30 of relief.

Joshua Frey led the Eagles with three goals and Thomas Maher added a pair of goals.

Randolph-Macon led 55-25 in shots and held a 47-24 edge in groundballs. The Yellow Jackets were 9-for-9 on clear attempts while the Eagles were 19-for-22.
