SALEM, VA – No. 22 Randolph-Macon Softball opened the 2013 ODAC Softball Tournament with a 4-3 victory over Bridgewater College Friday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets will now face top seeded Virginia Wesleyan tonight at 6:00 p.m. on field one at the Moyer Complex in Salem, VA.

R-MC took the lead early, plating three runs in the bottom of the first. Christa Simon started off the scoring by stealing home on a passed ball. Katie Woody finished the inning with a two run single up the middle to give the Yellow Jackets the 3-0 lead.

Bridgewater answered with three runs of its own in the top of the second to tie the game. Sarah Goodman scored the first run with a double down the left field line. The rally was capped by a Karie Burgess two run triple off an R-MC error.

The Yellow Jackets added the go-ahead run in the bottom of the second when Sharese Jarvis knocked a RBI single to center field to drive home Amanda Sopko.

The R-MC defense held strong the rest of the game, including a two strike out performance by Heather Lewis in the top of the seventh with a runner in scoring position to secure the win. She picked up her ODAC leading 20th win on the mound and finished with four strike outs.

Jarvis led the Yellow Jackets at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Simon and Lewis each went 2-for-3, while Woody posted a game-high two RBI. Jarvis and Lewis each had a stolen base in the win.
