Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse scored three goals in the final four minutes to earn a 17-16 victory over Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets are winners of their last three games and improve to 8-8 overall, 4-4 in the ODAC.
R-MC trailed VWC 16-14 with 4:37 to play in the fourth after Nick Pappas netted an unassisted goal, his fourth of the game.
Justin Butler pulled the Yellow Jackets within one when he found the back of the net with 3:54 remaining in the contest.
Robert Fox knotted the score at 16-16 just 48 seconds later after Nick Benhoff forced a turnover the in the Virginia Wesleyan offensive zone.
With 45 seconds to play, Jason Andrews ripped a shot past the VWC keeper to give R-MC their first lead since the 5:02 mark in the second quarter.
The Marlins had a man-up advantage for the final 12 seconds but their last shot missed high and the Yellow Jackets took the game 17-16.
Fox paced the Randolph-Macon offense with four goals and an assist. Andrews finished with three goals and goals assists while Josh Merwin chipped in with a pair of scores. Butler also had three assists while notching three scores of his own.
Nick Benhoff had another impressive performance in the faceoff circle going 25-for-37 while scooping up a game high 23 groundballs.
Thomas Smith improved to 4-1 between the pipes for the Yellow Jackets after making eight saves.
Virginia Wesleyan had four goals and two assists from both Pappas and Josh Currier. Joe Papetti added three scores and two helpers.
R-MC held a 57-43 advantage in shots while VWC had a 47-44 edge in groundballs.
Randolph-Macon wraps up the 2013 regular season on Saturday, April 27th when they host Bridgewater for a 1:00 contest. Prior to the game, R-MC will honor their senior players.
