Box Score 2 SALEM, VA – Randolph-Macon Softball split a doubleheader with No. 12 Roanoke College to end its regular season schedule Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets improve to 33-7 overall and 15-5 in ODAC play which places them in a three way tie for second place.
The Maroons scored first in game one in the bottom of the first inning, but the Yellow Jackets answered tying the score 1-1 in the top of the fourth. Heather Lewis drove home the tying run with a single shot to right field.
The Yellow Jackets took a 3-1 lead in the fifth when Katie Woody doubled to left field to plate Sharese Jarvis and Christa Simon.
Roanoke followed with two solo homeruns in the bottom of the fifth and the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 3-3 and force extra innings.
After a scoreless eighth inning, Christa Simon reached first on an error allowing Carolyn Gilbertson and Michalann Camp to score and capture the 5-3 victory.
Woody led at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double. Lewis finished 2-for-3 and notched a RBI.
Lewis picked up the win on the mound, pitching all nine innings and striking out a season-best five batters.
Game two proved to be close with neither team able to score a run in the first four innings. Roanoke lit up the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth and took a 3-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets.
The Maroons added another run in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 4-0 victory.
Lacey Berry finished 1-for-2 while Simon and Lewis both finished 1-for-3. Amanda Sopko and Matthews each notched a stolen base. Kristen Dize suffered the loss and finished with one strike out.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action at the 2013 ODAC Softball Tournament that will be held in Salem, VA. The tournament pairings and game information will be posted at a later date.
