Randolph-Macon Falls to Guilford; Set to Face Hampden-Sydney in ODAC Tournament

ASHLAND, VA – Guilford College picked up a pair of ODAC wins against Randolph-Macon Baseball Saturday afternoon 9-3 and 5-3. The Yellow Jackets now enter the 2013 ODAC Baseball Tournament as the No. 5 seed where they will face No. 2 seed Hampden-Sydney on Thursday, April 25th at 2:30.

Tim Benjamin paced R-MC at the plate in game one with a 3-for-4 performance and also drove in a run. Jeb Weymouth added a pair of hits and Mitchell Keeler had a solo homerun.

Guilford took a first inning lead when John Macon Smith singled through the left side to bring home Kent Peterson.

Benjamin knotted the score at 1-1 in the third when he drove in Jake Fletcher with a two out single into left field.

The Quakers broke the game open in the bottom half of the third with back to back RBI singles and a sacrifice fly by Corey Wallace. Guilford added two in the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the seventh to take the game 9-3.

Jake Bram is stuck with the loss after allowing six earned runs over five innings with two strikeouts. Matt Fischgrund fanned three in three innings of relief.

Peterson paced GC at the dish going 3-for-4 and driving in a pair of runs. Borja Jones-Berasaluce gave up three earned runs in six and a third innings to pick up his third win of the season.

After the Quakers took a 1-0 in the second inning of game two, Keeler came through in the top of the third with a single to left that scored Travis Lodge.

Guilford regained the lead in the fifth when Smith and Nathan Fulbright hit consecutive RBI singles. Wallace capped the three run inning with a sacrifice fly to push the advantage to 4-1.

Jeb Weymouth pulled the Yellow Jackets within one when he blasted a two run homerun in the sixth.

The Quakers tacked on an unearned run in the seventh and kept Randolph-Macon off the scoreboard in the final innings to complete the sweep with a 5-3 win.

Weymouth finished the game 2-for-3 with a two run homerun and a double. Michael Helbig gave up just three earned runs and struck out four over six and two thirds innings in the loss.

Smith led Guilford at the plate going a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI. Lou Trosch allowed three runs over six innings for the win while Tyler Tuttle picked up the save in three innings of scoreless relief.  

The Yellow Jackets now head to the ODAC Tournament where they will face rival Hampden-Sydney on the first day of the double elimination playoff. Game time is set for 2:30 on Thursday, April 25th at City Stadium in Lynchburg, VA.
