R-MC Sweeps Bridgewater, 2-1 and 3-2

Ashland, VA -- Randolph-Macon College swept a Saturday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) twinbill against Bridgewater College. The Yellow Jackets took game one from the Eagles, 2-1, in seven innings and captured the second game, 3-2, in seven innings.

In game one, Bridgewater was the first to score as Aven Thomas hit a hit a solo homerun over the center field fence in the top of the second inning.

R-MC answered, scoring a run in the bottom of the second. Jenna Best started off the hitting with a single through the right side. Michalann Camp advanced Best to second after she was hit by a pitch. Amanda Sopko brought Best home with a single to left field.

Neither team scored anymore runs until Sharese Jarvis singled to left field to drive home Christa Simon to record the go-ahead run and secure the win for the Yellow Jackets.

Simon and Best led the offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Simon also hit the only triple of the game. Amanda Sopko and Jarvis each posted a RBI.

Heather Lewis picked up the win for the Yellow Jackets, going the distance and striking out four.

The Yellow Jackets took the lead in game two early after Madison Gilman singled to right field to drive home Jarvis to take a 1-0 lead after the first inning of play.

Bridgewater followed with a two run second inning to capture a 2-1 lead. Brea Hinegardner posted the first run with a solo homerun to left field. Catcher, Leigh Lam, followed with another homerun to put the Eagles up by one.

In the bottom of the third inning, Best hit a single to right field to score Gilman and tie the game.

The game looked to be going into extra innings before a Jarvis single to center field in the bottom of the seventh with two outs scored Jessica Matthews and captured the win for the Yellow Jackets.

Kristen Dize picked up her 10th win on the mound for R-MC, pitching seven innings and striking out five.

Gilman led at the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Best and Jarvis each had a RBI in the win. Sopko and Matthews each recorded a stolen base.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on April 14th when they host the Royals of Eastern Mennonite for a double-header starting at 1:30 p.m.
