Box Score ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse (3-4) cut a four goal deficit down to one with 3:28 to play, but York College (Pa.) (4-1) held on for 15-13 win Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets return to Day Field Wednesday, March 13th when they host Ferrum under the lights at 7:00 pm.
After the Spartans went on a 6-1 run in the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets faced a 13-9 deficit heading into the fourth quarter.
R-MC's Justin Butler scored on a pass from Robert Fox at the 13:03 mark to pull within three but York tallied a goal just one minute later to run the advantage to 14-10.
Randolph-Macon then broke open a 3-0 run that was sparked by a Fox goal with 7:54 to play. Senior Tim Rowe then followed with a goal that was set up by Jason Andrews before Bobby Bailey found the back of the net to cut the edge to 14-13 with 3:28 on the clock.
The Yellow Jackets had two late shots to tie the game but the Spartans took advantage of a man up opportunity to score a goal and escape with a 15-13 win.
R-MC was paced offensively by Andrews who totaled three goals and three assists. Josh Merwin had a pair of goals and assists while Nick Benhoff, Rowe and Butler chipped in with two goals each. Benhoff also picked up a team high five groundballs and won 6-of-11 face offs.
Jordan Devito made 14 saves on 29 shots in goal for Randolph-Macon. Joey Bellavia made eight saves for the Spartans.
Blake Bing led York with six goals and an assist. James Lowe and Corey Cooke netted two goals each while Daniel Schuck picked up 13 groundballs and won 20-32 face offs.
The Spartans held a 42-26 edge in groundballs and a 49-36 advantage in shots.
