Box Score 2 ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon Softball picked up a pair of wins over Averett University 8-0 and 9-3 Thursday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets will be back in action Friday, March 15th, when they host Catholic University for a 2:30 doubleheader.
Heather Lewis tossed five shutout innings with two strikeouts to lead R-MC to an 8-0 victory in game one. The senior lefty scattered four hits with no walks to improve to 7-1 on the season.
Madison Gilman put Randolph-Macon on the board in the bottom of the first when she singled to right, scoring Lewis. The Yellow Jackets pushed across another run on an error before Jenna Best hit a sacrifice fly to score Gilman.
Christa Simon extended the R-MC advantage to 5-0 in the second when she belted a two run homerun over the fence in center.
An RBI single from Katie Woody in the third and run scoring hits from Gilman and Lewis in the fourth gave Randolph-Macon the 8-0 victory in five innings.
Sharese Jarvis set the tone for the Yellow Jackets in the first inning of game two with a solo homerun to center.
Gilman doubled to left in the third to score Lewis before Katie Woody drove in a run with a fielder's choice to push the advantage to 3-0 through three innings.
After another RBI single from Gilman in the fourth, Averett rallied for their first runs of the afternoon in the fifth inning. Lisa Mitro singled to left to bring home Lauren Averitt before the Cougars added another run on an error and a fielder's choice to narrow the margin to one.
Randolph-Macon responded quickly in the bottom of the fifth when Lauryn Nanny blasted a three run homerun to left. The Yellow Jackets would tack on two more runs to complete the sweep with a 9-3 victory.
Kristen Dize allowed just one earned run over seven innings with a strikeout on the way to her third win in the circle for R-MC.
Jarvis finished game two going 3-for-4 with an RBI while Gilman also had three hits and drove in three runs. Amanda Sopko added two singles and stole a base.
