Box Score ASHLAND, VA- Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse (4-4) rallied for a 7-1 run in the fourth quarter on the way to a 17-13 victory over Ferrum College Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets open their ODAC slate at No. 9 Washington and Lee Saturday, March 16th at 1:00.
The Panthers held a 2-1 lead with 8:19 left in the first quarter before senior Tim Rowe netted two consecutive goals to put the Yellow Jackets on top 3-2.
A man up goal from Ferrum's Nick Smith along with goals from Randolph-Macon's Justin Butler and Rowe were the only scores of the second quarter which ended with R-MC leading 5-3.
Both teams opened up the offense in the second half, combining for 22 goals on 42 shots.
Tyler Poage pulled the Panthers within one to start the third quarter but the Yellow Jackets rallied for three quick goals, two from Butler and one from Jason Andrews, over a 92 second period to go up 8-4.
Ferrum scored three of the next four goals before Will Walter found the back of the net with 12:29 to play, cutting the Randolph-Macon advantage to just one.
Rowe ripped a shot past the Panthers goalie less than a minute later, sparking a 7-1 run for the Yellow Jackets. Josh Merwin and Nick Benhoff followed Rowe with goals before Butler netted two scores. Merwin beat the keeper again and Ryan Davidson capped the rally with 7:07 to play which gave R-MC a 16-9 edge.
Late goals from Ferrum were not enough as Randolph-Macon earned their fourth win of the season.
Butler scored a game high five goals while Rowe chipped in with four scores and an assist. Andrews led the team with five helpers and two tallies of his own. Davidson found the back of the net three times, all coming in the second half.
R-MC's Benhoff was an impressive 22-for-31 in face off attempts while also scooping up a game high 17 groundballs.
Jordan Devito made 14 saves on 27 shots in goal for the Yellow Jackets.
Nick Smith paced the Panther attack with four goals while Will Walter added two goals and two assists.
Randolph-Macon held a 39-26 edge in groundballs and a narrow 39-36 edge in shots.
