Box Score 2 SALEM, Va--- Randolph-Macon College earned a split on opening day of the ODAC Tournament at the Moyer Sports Complex Friday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fell to Eastern Mennonite, 3-1 and later topped Randolph in the second round, 6-4 in eight innings.
R-MC took the early lead against EMU, plating a run in the top of the first off an RBI single by Laura Bauer that scored Lauryn Nanny.
The Royals responded with three runs in the top of the second and never looked back. The rally was capped by a Brooke Hensley RBI single and both teams finished the game without scoring a run.
Michalann Camp recorded two of R-MC's three team hits, finishing 2-for-3 with a double.
Heather Lewis took the loss for the Jackets, pitching a complete game while allowing five hits and three runs. The junior struck out a season-high 11 batters in the loss. Lisa Lee earned the win for EMU, allowing just three hits and one run.
In the nightcap, R-MC jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second. Megan Shepherd sparked the rally with a two run double and later scored on an RBI by Lacey Berry.
Randolph climbed its way back in the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Shepherd added to the lead in the next inning with an RBI double to centerfield scoring Amanda Sopko to make it 4-2.
The WildCats scored again in the sixth to cut the deficit back to one and tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when Kaitlin Mills stole home to force extra innings.
R-MC took the lead for good in the eighth when Carolyn Gilbertson scored on a wild pitch. Camp then drove in Sopko with an RBI single to right center to give the final score.
Shepherd carried the Yellow Jackets to the victory, going 3-for-3 with four RBI and a run. Camp added two hits an RBI and a run, while Sharese Jarvis chipped in with two hits after being moved to the clean-up spot.
Lewis picked up the win for R-MC on the hill, throwing all eight innings while allowing one earned run and striking out three. Jessica Sanabria took the loss for RC after coming in to pitch 2.2 innings of relief and surrendering two runs.
Randolph-Macon will take on the loser of the Bridgewater-Virginia Wesleyan game tonight at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow.
