Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va--- Jeb Weymouth and Tim Benjamin both totaled three hits and Jamie Hendrick tossed a gem to lead R-MC to a 4-2 victory over Bridgewater in the second round of the conference tournament Friday evening at City Stadium.
Randolph-Macon (20-16-1) struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. After Jake Fletcher walked, Jordan Walton ripped a double down the right field line to put runners on second and third. Weymouth then followed with a two run single up the middle to give R-MC the early advantage.
The Yellow Jackets added to their lead with a two run fifth inning. Michael Helbig sparked the rally with an RBI single to center field and Benjamin closed the scoring on a sacrifice fly that scored Weymouth.
Bridgewater (28-13) plated a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the score to 4-1. The Eagles added another run in the bottom of the eighth, but couldn't put together enough offense to get any closer and closed the game with a final score of 4-2.
Weymouth paced the Jackets at the dish, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run. Benjamin chipped in three hits and an RBI, while Zach Broaddus chipped in two base knocks in the win. Fletcher scored two runs for R-MC on the evening.
Hendrick earned the win for the Yellow Jackets, pitching his second straight complete game while surrendering just seven hits and two runs and striking out three. Robert Gallet was tagged with the loss for the Eagles, allowing four runs in 6.1 innings of work.
The Yellow Jackets advance to take on Lynchburg tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. The winner will advance to the championship, while the loser will play the winner of the H-SC-Bridgewater Contest at 3:00 p.m.
