Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va--- R-MC split with #19 Bridgewater to remain tied for second place in the conference Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles took game one, 2-1 in nine innings, and the Yellow Jackets earned the win in the nightcap, 4-3.
Bridgewater (30-8 / 12-4 ODAC), ranked 19th in the latest National Fast Pitch Coaches Association Poll (NFCA) and Randolph-Macon (28-10 / 12-4 ODAC) split for the second straight year to stay locked in at second place.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets set a new program record for ODAC wins in a single season, previously set in 2010.
The Eagles took the lead in the opener in a pitcher's duel between junior southpaw Heather Lewis and Heather Jenkins. BC scored first on an RBI double by Leigh Lam in the bottom of the fourth.
The Jackets tied the score in the top of sixth off a two out RBI double by Sharese Jarvis that plated Lauryn Nanny. Both squads played a scoreless seventh to force extra innings.
R-MC had the chance to win in the top of the eighth when Paige Wernig was thrown out the plate. Lewis pitched her way out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the frame to push play into the ninth inning.
The Eagles loaded the bases again in the ninth, winning the game on an RBI single up the middle by Melanie Lamb.
Nanny finished 2-for-4 at the dish, while Jarvis and Carolyn Gilbertson recorded the other two hits for the Yellow Jackets.
Lewis had her seven game winning streak snapped in the loss, falling to 13-4 on the year. The junior tossed all 8.2 innings in the circle, allowing just two earned runs while striking out six Jenkins earned the win for the Eagles, surrendering just four hits in nine innings of work.
Game two started off with both teams swinging the bat well. R-MC opened the game with two runs in the top of the first. Nanny led off with a walk and Lewis followed with her second homerun of the year.
Bridgewater responded, tying the game on a two run homer by Lamb in the bottom half of the inning.
After two scoreless innings, the Jackets plated another two runs in the fourth. Michalann Camp sparked the rally with an RBI double to center field. Camp later scored on an RBI by Jasmine Cousins.
BC would add a run in the sixth, but couldn't put together another run to give the final score.
Lewis led Randolph-Macon at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Laura Bauer and Jarvis each chipped in a hit in the win.
Kristen Dize improved to 7-3 with the victory, allowing three runs in six innings. Lewis closed the game out in the seventh to earn her first save of the season. Aven Thomas took the loss for the Eagles.
R-MC closes the regular season out tomorrow with a twin bill at Eastern Mennonite. Play is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start at Harrisonburg High School.
