Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Va--- Randolph-Macon College Softball swept Southern Virginia Thursday evening in its home finale. R-MC took game one, 8-1 and earned the win in game two, 10-2 in five innings.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 27-9 on the season, while the Knights dropped to 11-24.
After falling behind 1-0 in the third inning of game one, R-MC rang off four runs in the bottom half of the frame and never looked back. Lauryn Nanny sparked the rally with a leadoff homerun to centerfield, her first of the season. Later in the inning, Sharese Jarvis belted her ODAC-best 10th homer of the year on a three run shot to left field scoring Heather Lewis and Amanda Sopko.
The Jackets added to the lead in the fifth when Lacey Berry singled in Laura Bauer to make it 5-1. R-MC scored three runs in the sixth to give the final score.
Jarvis led R-MC at the plate, finishing with two runs and three RBI. Carolyn Gilbertson, Bauer, and Beard each added an RBI.
Beard improved to 7-3 on the mound in the win, scattering 11 hits and one run in a complete game. McKenzie Mackay took the loss for SVU.
The Knights took an early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning of game two, before the Yellow Jackets put together a 10 run bottom half of the inning to put the game away.
Michalann Camp started the comeback with an RBI single down the left field line that scored Beard. Sopko, Lewis, and Jarvis followed with consecutive RBI singles to make the score 6-1. Jordan Wootton, Beard, and Megan Shepherd hit back-to-back-to-back RBI doubles to put R-MC up 9-1. The Jackets scored the final run of the inning on an error.
After loading the bases in the fifth, SVU scored one run to give the final score.
Shepherd stayed hot to pace the Jackets at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Sopko continued to swing it well, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases. Camp and Beard each added two hits and an RBI.
Jasmine Cousins started the game for R-MC tossing 3.1 innings while allowing just one run and four hits while striking out one. Kristen Dize relieved Cousins in the third to earn the victory. She is now 7-3 on the year after throwing 1.2 innings while surrendering one run.
The Yellow Jackets return to action this weekend when they go on a four game road swing in hopes of reaching the 30 win mark. R-MC will take on Bridgewater Saturday, April 21st in an ODAC doubleheader set to begin at 1:30. On Sunday Randolph-Macon will travel crosstown to take on Eastern Mennonite to conclude the season.
