Box Score 2 LYNCHBURG, Va--- Randolph-Macon College swept Randolph to win its eighth straight contest. The Yellow Jackets blanked the WildCats 4-0 in game one and earned the shutout in game two, 1-0.
R-MC improved its record to 22-8 overall, 8-2 in ODAC play, while Randolph dropped to 17-13 on the year, 6-6 in the conference.
With the sweep, the senior trio of Megan Shepherd, Jordan Hunt, and Laura Bauer surpassed the Class of 2011 to become the winningest class in school history with 84 career victories.
The Yellow Jackets struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the third off an RBI single by Heather Lewis that scored Lauryn Nanny.
R-MC manufactured two more runs in the fifth off an error and a wild pitch to push the advantage to 3-0. Kelly Beard put the game away in the seventh on an RBI single to left field to give the final score.
Nanny led the Jackets at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs. Lewis and Beard both recorded a hit and an RBI in the win. Lauren Stevenson paced the WildCats, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate
Lewis improved to 11-3 on the season, pitching a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits while striking out four. Jessica Sanabria took the loss for Randolph, surrendering one earned run in five innings of work.
Amanda Sopko drove in Michalann Camp for the game's only run in the top of the seventh.
Lewis picked up two of R-MC's five hits in the nightcap. Beard, Camp, and Nanny recorded the other three base knocks for the Jackets.
Beard picked up the win on the mound, tossing a complete game shutout while allowing just five hits and striking out two.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday, April 14th when they play host to Lynchburg on senior day. The doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start.
