#23 Shenandoah Tops Randolph-Macon, 11-3 in Baseball Action

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va--- Randolph-Macon College baseball dropped an 11-3 decision to #23 Shenandoah Friday afternoon at Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.  The Yellow Jackets fell to 4-7-1 on the season, while the Hornets improved to 10-4 on the year.

Shenandoah, ranked #23 in the latest D3baseball.com poll has now won four straight over R-MC.

The Yellow Jackets took an early lead when Michael Helbig singled to score Jordan Walton in the bottom of the second.  After Shenandoah tied the score in the top of the fourth, Jon Witt belted a homerun to left field to regain the lead, 2-1 in the bottom half of the frame.

SU would tie the score the following inning on an RBI single by Jake Pendergraft.  From then on it would be all Shenandoah, as the Hornets took the lead with four runs in the top of the sixth, started by an RBI single Mike Minch.  SU added five runs in the eighth to put the ball game away.

Pinch-hitter Macon Heikes doubled down the left field line to score Walton in the bottom of the eighth and give the final score.

Four errors proved costly for the Yellow Jackets as Shenandoah scored six unearned runs on the day.

Helbig finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two doubles.  Witt added two hits including his second homerun of the year.  Pendergraft paced SU at the plate, finishing 6-6 with three RBI and two runs.

Jake Bram took the loss on the hill for R-MC.  The freshman pitched six innings, allowing six runs, five earned and striking out three.  Nicholas McMahon picked up the win for Shenandoah, throwing eight innings of three run ball.

Randolph-Macon is back on the diamond tomorrow afternoon, as they play host to ODAC foe Lynchburg in a double-header.  Game one is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
