Box Score ST. MARY'S, MD--- Randolph-Macon College Baseball fell to St. Mary's 11-10 on a three-run homerun by Corey Napier in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets dropped to 4-6-1 on the season, while the Seahawks improved to 7-3 on the year.
The win by St. Mary's avenged an earlier loss to R-MC in the season-opener.
Randolph-Macon took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. St. Mary's countered, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second and third to take a 6-2 lead.
R-MC tied the game in the fourth, plating four runs in the inning on a two-run single by Jeb Weymouth scoring Austin Carpenter and Zach Broaddus. In the next at-bat Jordan Walton ripped a two-run double to left field, scoring Weymouth and Brian Jordan.
In the top of the sixth, the Yellow Jackets would regain the lead off an RBI double by Tim Benjamin. The Seahawks would tie the game again in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI single to left by Napier.
Broaddus led of the top of the seventh with a walk and later stole second base. He would then score on an RBI single to center field by Carpenter. After a Kevin Carroll walk and a sac-bunt by Jordan Walton, Weymouth would step to the plate with one out and runners on second and third. The junior delivered again in his first game of the year, driving in both Carpenter and Carroll with a two run single to left field, giving R-MC a 10-7 lead.
St. Mary's then rallied in the home half of the eighth off the three run homerun by Napier and a run off a fielder's choice by Zach Nadolny.
Walton led the Jackets at the plate on the day, finishing 4-for-6 with a double, two RBI, and a run. Weymouth also had a big day at the dish, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two walks. Carpenter added a 3-for-5 performance on the day with two runs and an RBI. Napier paced St. Mary's two hits, a homerun, four RBI, and two runs.
The Yellow Jackets would send seven different pitchers to the mound, with JT Williamson taking the loss and falling to 2-2 on the season. Sam Coe picked up the win for the Seahawks, pitching three perfect innings of relief.
R-MC returns to action Friday, March 9th when the men play host to Shenandoah. The game is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start.
