Big First-Half Run Sends R-MC Men's Lax to a 17-8 Win at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, VA – Randolph-Macon scored nine answered goals during the first-half of play as the Yellow Jackets topped Shenandoah, 17-8, Tuesday night in Winchester, Va.

Tyler Midwinter (3g, 5a) registered eight points, while Jake Leddy had four goals and assist to lead R-MC (3-2).  Patrick Egan and Brett Austin each had a pair of goals for Randolph-Macon as well.

Shenandoah (0-5) was able to take an early lead as Sean Mack got SU on the board 3:02 into the game off an assist from Bryan Pope.

The game would stay that way until the 8:17 mark when Leddy set up Midwinter for the Jackets first goal and sparked what proved to be nine unanswered strikes and an eventual 14-2 run by R-MC.

Leddy scored with six minutes left in the quarter and then after Brett Austin tallied a man-down goal, Leddy struck again with under four minutes to play to make the score 4-1.

Goals by Tim Rowe, Jason Andrews and Midwinter gave R-MC a 7-1 advantage after the first 15 minutes of action.

The Jackets would add to that lead on back-to-back goals by Leddy in the second quarter before a Pope score sent the teams to the intermission with Randolph-Macon up 9-2.

Randolph-Macon scored five goals in a span of 3:13 to start the second half to take a 14-2 lead and put the game away.   Midwinter had one of the five goals and dished out three assists during the run.

The Yellow Jackets outshot SU 36-27 and held a 31-22 edge in groundballs.  Michael McBournie won 13-of-19 face offs in the win for R-MC and the Jackets were 4-of-7 on man-up opportunities.

R-MC will be off until Sunday when it will play host to Wooster from Ohio at 2:00 p.m.
