R-MC Rallies for ODAC Baseball Sweep of Eastern Mennonite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ASHLAND, VA --   Brain Jordan's RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Zach Broaddus to cap a late rally by Randolph-Macon and give the Yellow Jackets an 8-7 victory and an ODAC doubleheader sweep of Eastern Mennonite.

With R-MC (4-5-1 / 2-0 ODAC) trailing 7-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Jordan drew a one out walk and moved to second base on a single by Jake FletcherJordan Walton then followed with an triple to plate both and make it a 7-5 game.  The next batter Jon Witt then brought in Walton with a sacrifice fly to pull R-MC within one at 7-6.

EMU (4-7 / 0-2 ODAC) threatened to tack on extra insurance runs in its half of the ninth inning by loading the bases with just one out.  R-MC reliever Ryan Wood came up big getting the final two outs to keep the Jackets within striking distance.

In the home half of the ninth, Jordan led off with an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error by the Royals' third baseman.  Fletcher would move Jordan to third with a bunt before EMU elected to intentionally walk Walton.  Witt followed with a hard hit ball that was misplayed by the Royals allowing Jordan to score the equalizer.

Broaddus led off the 10th inning with a walk and went to second on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Ryan Dickt, before Jordan ended the game two batters later.

Wood earned the win for R-MC after tossing 1.2 innings of relief and surrendering one hit and striking out one.  He is now 1-0 on the year.

In the day's opening contest, Randolph-Macon again found itself down early, surrendering four runs in the top-half of the first inning.

The Jackets rallied in their half of the fourth, loading the bases before Broaddus delivered a two RBI double.  Matt Musser would single home a run before Jordan capped the rally with a two out double to put R-MC in front 5-4.

EMU tied the game in its next at bat and the score would stay that way until bottom of the seven. After the first two batters of the inning were retired, Witt drew a walk and Tim Benjamin homered to left field to give R-MC a 7-5 lead.

R-MC would pad its lead in the eighth inning collecting five hits and five runs all after the first two batters of the frame were retired.

JT Williamson tossed three innings of relief, allowing just one and striking out two to improve to 2-1 on the year.

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to St. Mary's of Maryland for a 2:00 p.m. game.
