Box Score GREENSBORO, NC -- Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse scored a hard fought 14-12 ODAC road win at Guilford on Saturday. With the win, R-MC is now 9-3, which ties the program's highest victory total since 1999.
R-MC (9-3 / 3-0 ODAC) got hat tricks from Tyler Midwinter, Jason Andrews and Justin Butler. Jake Leddy had two goals, while Midwinter also dished out a pair of assists.
Josh Merwin got R-MC on the board just one minute into the game with an unassisted goal before back-to-back scores Chris Ashcraft and Nick Mann gave GC a 2-1 advantage.
Randolph-Macon reeled off three consecutive goals, taking a 4-2 lead on an Andrews goal with 4:37 to go in the first quarter.
R-MC would hold a 5-4 lead after the first stanza and would be able to widen its lead to 8-4 with three unanswered goals by Midwinter, Andrews and Butler to start the second period.
A Mann goal sent the teams to the intermission with R-MC leading 8 and goals by Guilford's Chase Clausen and Jess Rodgers cut the Yellow Jackets' advantage to 8-7 with just over 12 minutes to play in the third quarter.
An Andrews man-up strike with just under nine minutes to go sparked a 4-1 run for the Yellow Jackets to end the quarter with Brett Austin making it 12-8 with just one second left on the clock.
Leddy pushed the R-MC lead to 13-8 with a score two minutes into the final quarter, but Guilford went on a 4-0 run to cut Jackets' lead to 13-12 with 6:30 to play in the game.
Midwinter set up Andrews for an insurance goal at the 4:10 mark and Joe Liberto caused a GC turnover with under a minute to go to seal the R-MC victory.
Guilford's (6-5 / 1-3) Clausen and Taylor Teodosio each had three goals in the loss for the Quakers, while Mann had two goals and two assists.
Randolph-Macon will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts archrival Hampden-Sydney in a 4:00 p.m. ODAC contest.
