Box Score ROCKY MOUNT, NC---Randolph-Macon College Baseball scored all eight runs in the first two innings of the ball game to cruise to an 8-3 victory Thursday afternoon at Bauer Field. The Yellow Jackets improved to 12-11-1 on the year, while the Bishops dropped to 15-18 overall.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first. Brian Jordan led off the game with a double down the right field line. After Jordan advanced to third on a Jake Fletcher single, he scored on an RBI double by Jeb Weymouth. Jordan Walton then grounded out to shortstop, driving in Fletcher to put R-MC up 2-0.
In the top of the second, Randolph-Macon plated six runs to jump out to a commanding 8-0 lead. Matt Musser and Zach Broaddus opened the inning with consecutive singles to left field. Austin Carpenter then reached on a bunt single to load the bases. After Jordan walked, Musser scored and Broaddus and Carpenter crossed the plate off NCWC errors to make the score 5-0.
With the bases still loaded, Walton singled to left field driving in Jordan for his 17th RBI of the year. Two batters later, Musser ripped a two out, two run single to center field for his second hit of the inning to give R-MC the 8-0 edge.
Musser led the Jackets at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Carpenter added two hits and Walton drove in two runs in the win. Jake Alexander paced the Bishops at the dish, going 4-for-5 with two RBI.
Matt Fischgrund earned his first victory of the year for R-MC, pitching four innings of one run ball while striking out three. Jackson Pleasant took the loss for NCWC, allowing five runs (three earned) in just one inning of work.
The Yellow Jackets return to ODAC action Saturday, March 31st when they travel to Lexington to take on Washington and Lee. Game one of the day's doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
