Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Va---Randolph-Macon College split a double-header with Emory & Henry Friday afternoon at Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park. E&H earned the win in game one, 19-13 and R-MC took game two, 4-3 in eight innings.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 10-11-1 overall, 5-3 in the ODAC, while the Wasps are now 7-15 on the year, 5-4 in conference play.
Game one tied the most runs ever scored in the series between the two teams, as E&H topped R-MC 19-13. The Wasps used a five run third inning and four run seventh to pull away as they scored in every inning but the ninth.
Jordan Walton led the Yellow Jackets at the plate, finishing 4-for-6 with a homerun, two RBI, and four runs. Jake Fletcher batted 3-for-4 with three RBI, and three runs and Jon Witt added two RBI. Remington Hedgepeth paced E&H, going 5-for-6 with three RBI and Josh McMillian drove in five runs.
Colby Gardner earned the win for the Wasps, improving to 3-3 on the year after pitching 2.2 innings, while allowing three earned runs. Jamie Hendrick was saddled with the loss for R-MC after tossing three innings and surrendering four earned runs and striking out three.
The Jackets took game two, 4-3 in eight innings as the game was called due to darkness. Emory & Henry struck first in the third inning with a run, but R-MC tied the score in the following frame on a sacrifice fly to center field by Fletcher.
The Yellow Jackets put the game away in the fourth when they scored three runs. Macon Heikes started the rally with an RBI double to left center field that scored Walton. After Matt Musser singled through the left side to advance Heikes to third, a Zach Broaddus groundout allowed Heikes to score. Austin Carpenter followed with an RBI single to left to give the Jackets a 4-1 lead.
McMillian led off the fifth with a homerun to left field and Emory & Henry added a run in the eighth, but its comeback fell short as the game was called.
Michael Helbig recorded the win for R-MC, improving to 2-1 on the year. Helbig tossed seven innings, allowing just two runs, while striking out two. Ryan Wood earned his fourth save of the year, pitching a scoreless eighth inning. Jessup Lambert took the loss for the Wasps, throwing all eight innings, surrendering four runs and striking out four.
The Jackets are back in action Wednesday, March 28th when they play host to Mary Washington. Game time is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start.
