Box Score DOVER, DE--Randolph-Macon earned a 8-7 road win at Wesley Thursday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets improved to 9-10-1 on the season, while the Wolverines dropped to 13-5.
After Brian Jordan scored to help R-MC take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first off two Wesley errors, the Wolverines jump on top in the bottom of the frame with two runs of their own.
The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the top of the second when Austin Carpenter scored off an error that allowed Jordan to reach. Wesley regained the lead later in the inning on a Casey Rothwell RBI single to left field.
R-MC plated four runs in the fourth to capture the lead for good. An RBI bunt single by Jordan scored Zach Broaddus to tie the score. Two batters later, Jeb Weymouth ripped an RBI single to center field that scored Jordan to give R-MC the lead for good. Jordan Walton followed with a double to left center to score Jake Fletcher and Weymouth to give the Yellow Jackets a 6-3 lead.
The Wolverines put two runs on the board to cut the lead to one in the next inning, capped by an RBI single up the middle by Bryan Reshetar.
Weymouth led off the top of the ninth with a solo homerun to right center field and Broaddus drove in Walton on a bunt single to add two insurance runs and give R-MC an 8-5 lead.
Those insurance runs proved to be needed as Wesley would score two runs off wild pitches in the bottom of the ninth, but fall just short of completing the comeback.
Weymouth led the Yellow Jackets at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a homerun, two RBI and two runs scored. Rob Benedict paced the Wolverines going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Sid Harvey improved to 1-1 on the mound this season for R-MC, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings in relief. Ryan Wood earned his third save of the year. Jeff Cochran took the loss for WC, allowing six runs (four earned) in 3.2 innings of work.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow when they play host to the Wasps of Emory & Henry in an ODAC doubleheader scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
