Box Score FERRUM, VA – Tyler Midwinter and Brett Austin each had four goals as the Randolph-Macon Men's Lacrosse team knocked off Ferrum 13-9 Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
R-MC has now won five in a row and six out of its last seven to improve to 7-2 on the year. Ferrum drops to 4-6 on the season.
Austin also added three assists for a seven point day for the Yellow Jackets. Jason Andrews and Tim Rowe each had a pair of goals in the victory, while Josh Merwin dished out a pair of assists.
With the score tied at 1-1, Austin sparked a five goal run for the Yellow Jackets with his first goal of the game with just under 10 minutes to play in the first quarter.
An Andrew Senft goal cut the R-MC lead to 6-2 at halftime and Senft would open the second half scoring with a goal 1:09 into the third quarter, making it 6-3.
Rowe, Austin and Andrews scored three unanswered goals for R-MC to make it 9-3 with 3:47 to play in the third quarter.
After back-to-back goals by Ferrum made 9-5, Austin took a pass from Joe Liberto and scored as time expired to send R-MC to a 10-5 advantage after three periods.
The Panthers scored early in final period, but back-to-back strikes by Midwinter made its 12-6 and put the game away for R-MC.
R-MC out shot Ferrum 36-32, while the Panthers won the groundball battle 31-26. Joe Liberto led the Jackets with seven groundballs on the day. Jason Crawford made 12 saves on the day in net.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Randolph in ODAC action at 2:30 p.m.
