Box Score WINCHESTER, Va--- Randolph-Macon College baseball fell to #10 Shenandoah, 4-1 Tuesday afternoon at Bridgeforth Field. The Yellow Jackets dropped to 8-10-1 on the season, while the Hornets improved to 16-5.
SU, ranked #10 in the latest ABCA Poll released today, defeated R-MC for the second time this year.
Shenandoah jumped out to an early lead, going up 1-0 in the bottom of the first when Kurt Krout scored on a sacfrifice fly by Jake Pendergraft.
Brian Jordan led off the bottom of the third with a walk. After a sacrifice bunt by Jake Fletcher and a single by Jeb Weymouth, Jordan advanced to third. He then scored on a fielder's choice by Jordan Walton to tie the score.
The Hornets took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth when Krout scored off a balk. SU added an insurance run in the next frame when Corbin Lucas crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Shenandoah scored its final run of the game to close it out in the bottom of the eighth.
Jon Witt and Zach Broaddus led the Jackets at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 on the day in helping Randolph-Macon out-hit SU, 8-5 on the afternoon.
Brooks Snead took the loss for the Yellow Jackets, falling to 0-1 on the year. He was one of five R-MC pitchers that combined to walk nine on the day. Jeff Stanek earned the victory for SU, pitching nine innings of one-run ball.
The Jackets return to action Thursday, March 22nd when they travel to Wesley for a non-conference contest. Game-time is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
