VIRGINIA BEACH, Va--- Randolph-Macon College topped Averett, 3-2 to open up play the Beach Blast Friday afternoon.  In their second game of the day, the Yellow Jackets fell to Kean University, 3-1 in nine innings.  R-MC  improved to 4-2 on the season.

In game one, both teams were deadlocked in a pitcher's duel throughout most of the contest as the first five innings were scoreless on both sides. 

In the top of the sixth, Lauren Daniel reached on an error for Averett with one out to put a threat on the base paths.  The next batter, Lauren Daniel then belted a two-run homer to left field to put the Cougars up 2-0.

In the bottom half of the sixth R-MC responded.  Michalann Camp opened the inning with a double to left field and later advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Heather Lewis then helped her own cause on the mound by driving her in with a SAC-fly to center field and cut the lead to one.

After a scoreless top of the seventh the Yellow Jackets took the plate for their final opportunity to tie or win the ball game.  Laura Bauer led off with a single to right field and was pinch ran for by Lacy Berry.  Carolyn Gilbertson then bunted her into scoring position to bring up Kelly Beard with one out. 

Beard provided the late game dramatics, belting her first career walk-off homerun to left field, leading the Yellow Jackets to victory.

Beard recorded one of just three hits by R-MC, which manufactured its first win over from home on the season.

Lewis improved to 3-0 on the mound this year for the Yellow Jackets, throwing a complete game.  Last week's ODAC Pitcher of the Week tossed a complete game, allowing just five hits and one earned run, while striking out one.  Leah Powell took the loss for AU, falling to 2-2 on the year.

In the second game of the day, Kean defeated R-MC, 3-1 in extra innings. 

Randolph-Macon returns to action tomorrow when it resumes play in the Beach Blast Tournament.  The Yellow Jackets will take on York (PA) at 2:00 p.m. and Christopher Newport at 4:00 p.m.
