SALEM, Va--- Randolph-Macon College softball opened the Roanoke Valley Softball Blast with a record of 1-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Moyer Sports Complex.  R-MC fell to Ferrum, 4-0 in its first game and defeated Grace (Ind.), 8-0 in five innings.  The Yellow Jackets improved to 8-4 on the season.

In the opener, Ferrum scored two runs in the second and two runs in the fifth on error to earn the win.  Sharese Jarvis, Michalann Camp, and Carolyn Gilbertson registered the only hits of the day for R-MC.

Junior Heather Lewis took her first loss of the year in contest, falling to 7-1 on the year.  Lewis tossed six innings, surrendering two earned runs and eight hits.  Hannah Shumaker picked up the win for the Panthers, pitching five innings of shut-out ball.  Rachel Shumaker threw two innings to earn the save.

In game two, Randolph-Macon picked up the win behind a complete-game shutout from Kristen Dize.  The junior surrendered just three hits, while striking out one and walking one.

Jarvis led the Yellow Jackets at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a homerun, two doubles, and six RBI.  Lewis added two hits and an RBI in the win.

R-MC is back in action on the diamond tomorrow afternoon when they take on Huntingdon and Hunter in the final day of the Blast Tournament.  Game one against Huntingdon begins at 10:00 a.m. while the contest with Hunter is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
