Box Score 2 FREDERICKSBURG, Va--- Randolph-Macon traveled to Mary Washington for a double-header Saturday afternoon. R-MC took game one, with a 2-0 victory behind a gem from lefty Jamie Hendrick. Game two ended in a 1-1 tie after going 14 innings.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-1-1 overall, while the Eagles dropped to 1-2-1 on the season.
In the opener, R-MC took an early lead, plating a run in the top of the first. Zach Broaddus drew a lead-off walk to start the game. After a Jake Fletcher single advanced him into scoring position, John Witt picked up his first RBI of the year to give the Jackets the early lead.
In the top of the fifth, Jordan Walton led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch to give R-MC a two run lead.
Hendrick tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just six hits in the contest. The junior from Richmond, Va struck out six, while walking just one batter on the contest.
Witt paced the Yellow Jackets at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with an RBI. Michael Helbig added two hits for R-MC.
Game two proved to be a pitcher's duel with both pitchers throwing nine innings of one-run ball. R-MC got on the board first, scoring its only run of the game in the top of the second. Ryan Dickt hit an RBI single in his first at-bat of the season to score Brian Jordan.
Mary Washington would tie the game in the bottom frame of the seventh inning, scoring on a sac-fly to center field.
Helbig pitched nine innings, allowing one run and six hits, while striking out three. Brandon Beiler relieved him throwing, three innings of not hit ball and Sid Harvey pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Matt Abramson tossed nine innings, striking out nine for Mary Washington. Chris Somerville came in to pitch five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.
Walton led the Yellow Jackets at the plate, finishing with two hits, a double and a single.
R-MC will return to action Thursday, February 23rd when they travel to Methodist. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
